I just want to say that this past weekend was incredible. A mission team of 27 people from Anderson, SC went to eastern Kentucky to provide Christmas for families that live in poverty. We aided churches and missions in the area by providing clothes, shoes, blankets, jackets, toys, ect. to many different families. On Friday, we passed out gifts to a two particular families that the mission team has been sponsoring for several years and provided them with much needed jackets. Then on Saturday, we hosted two Christmas parties. The first one was held in a high school gym (which seemed to double as a community center) and was expected to have roughly 1000 kids in attendance, but the weather (snow) kept many from coming. We had to leave that party early so we could make it in time for the second. It was held at an elementary school 2 hours from the first one. Since it was snowing, it took us even longer to get there because mountain roads and snow do not mix. This party was held for 12 families that are sponsored by various churches in the Anderson, SC area. There were about 60 children that attended. We served hotdogs, sang songs, and read the kids a Christmas story. We talked with their parents and encouraged them in any way possible. That night, we got news that the pastor of the church we were planning to attend the next morning was in the hospital due to heart problems and that there wasn’t anyone to fill in for him. Our mission team stepped up and filled in the gaps by teaching Sunday School, leading music, telling their testimonies, and preaching a sermon. I want to thank God for allowing me to go on this trip. It was the second time going with these awesome group on people and I want to thank everyone who had a part in it whether it was planning, donating toys or clothes, wrapping gifts, or praying for us.
God bless,
Erin
